Exercise in clean mountain air

Hiking all day long

Innumerable marked walking trails invite you to enjoy the mountain world of the Hohe Tauern. From a family-friendly stroll through mountain pastures, accompanied by the tinkle of cow bells, to the high-alpine hiking routes with more rugged terrain and rocks, you have a wide choice of walks.

Choose from the wide green valley floor with its walking and cycle paths, or make your way up the foothills through cool green forests and pastures, up through the ragged rocks, where you may well get a glimpse of wild Marmots (like giant hamsters), and on to the rock faces, where you really need ropes and experience. All the time you should keep an eye out for circling eagles and bussards that live in these mountains

Our National Park Rangers and mountain leaders, who are highly trained experts, can help you if you want to be professionally guided through this beautifull mountain landscape, where from the mountain tops, over 30 peaks, each over 3,000 meters (10,000 feet) can be seen.

Relaxed Hiking

Try our conducted walks with selected guides with a taxi transfer up to the  forest boundary where your walk proper will start.

This gives you the advantage of taking your first steps in the cool forest with the best, fresh, healthy air, and you arrive at the mountain pasture totally fit, so you also can enjoy the wonderful view of more than 30 peaks rising 3.000 meters above sea level.

Culture-landscape way Piesendorf Niedernsill

From Piesendorf/Walchen or Niedernsill/Steindorf the new culture landscape way leads you to the Nagelkoepfel - where you have an amazing view over the Salzachtal and the Hohe Tauern.

The Nagelkoepfel is one of the first setting points of the celts and it's a magic force place with "Keltenwiegen" to relaxe and refuel energy.

The way skirts a herb garden (Krapfbauer), an original wood farmhand bark hut, a "Kneippanlage", art in the landscape and the newly built chapel directly on the Nagelkoepfel. Display boards along the way give you information about the area and nature you see about you.

Nature Trails

10 presentation boards inform you about the river, copper mining, forestry, old and new, development of the Hohe Tauern, amphibians' migration and the fabrication of the "frog fence", which saves the lives of frogs here and around the world.
