On an exciting discovery tour through four climate zones from the village of Kaprun uphill to TOP OF SALZBURG at over 3,000 metres above sea level and into the world of glaciers accompanied by a National Park Ranger. How is glacier ice formed, where do golden eagles and bearded vultures live, what survival strategies do edelweiss and saxifrage develop? An experience close to nature for the entire family.

During a guided tour with a National Park ranger you can experience fascinating insights into and views of the Hohe Tauern National Park: In the mystical informative tunnel of the National Park Gallery, the ranger conveys interesting facts about the formation of mountain crystals and the Hohe Tauern, he talks about gold and silver, the natural phenomenon of permafrost, but also about fauna, flora and the glaciers of the Hohe Tauern.

VALLEY OF EMERALDS
11th July to 5th September 2022 - Habachtal Bramberg

The Habachtal is the most famous valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park among mineral lovers. The only emerald discovery site in Europe contributes to the international fame of this Tauern valley. With a little luck you can observed wild animals such as red deer, chamois and marmots.

A very special, mystical and stunning night-time spectacle brings the Sigmund Thun gorge to live. At the guided torch-lit walk parents and children alike look forward to a romantic, impressive adventure.

CASTLE TOUR
4th July to 25th September 2022 - Kaprun

Walk through 600 years of eventful history.
Even today you can still feel the atmosphere of times long gone when you enter the venerable Kaprun Castle. It is as if you are travelling back in time. Surrounded by centuries-old walls, you get an impression of how counts and castellans spent their everyday lives.

Learn more about the castle and listen to the history at 5 pm. Afterwards, you can explore the castle yourself. There are photo points, a small exhibition, the castle museum and the dungeon. In 2021, the castle association built a staircase to get to the highest point of the keep, from where you can enjoy the panoramic view. The unique view over the Zell Basin is a special highlight of a visit to the castle.

NATURAL JEWEL REEDSEE

Hike with a National Park Ranger to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Gastein valley. Surrounded by ancient mountain forest, alpine roses, stone pines and dwarf pines, the Reedsee lake lies in a scenic clearing at the foot to the Tischlergruppe. With a bit of luck, trees, mountains and glaciers reflect magically in the calm waters.

TRIP TO THE ARCTIC

A hike to the glacier region of the Hohe Tauern is nearly the same as a thousand kilometers long trip to the North Cape. During your hike between Großglockner peak and Granatspitz mountain you will walk through different latitudinal zones of flora and fauna.

Walk through the magically lighted Sigmund-Thun Gorge and experience a nature-festival enchanted by colorful light and roaring water. This hike is a mystical and beautiful experience for the whole family.

The event takes place in any kind of weather. Good shoes is recommended!

HERBAL HIKING
25th May to 28th September 2022 - Piesendorf

Leisurely hike with detailed explanation of the wild herbs growing on site and remedial plants. Then you attach with the accumulated herbs a herbal oil or a tincture or stir a remedial ointment.

KING OF THE SKY
13th July to 7th September 2022 - Raurisertal

In 1986, the first bearded vulture in the Kruml valley was abandoned across the Alps in order to resettle this formerly exterminated "King of the sky". During the excursion through the wild and romantic Kruml valley you can, with a bit of luck, observe other wild animals in addition to bearded vultures, griffon vultures, black vultures and golden eagles.

With a National Park Ranger, you will hike through the Schödertal valley with its steep rock faces and imposing rocky outcrops to the unique periodic Schödersee lake. The constant changes caused by the power of nature are the reason for new things about the head of the valley every year. The wild and romantic path as well as the Schöderbach stream ensure a varied hike.

Framed by the glaciered mountains of the Tauern ridge, the panorama in the Nassfeld has an impressive effect on visitors. It is not untouched nature, but a cultural landscape that has been shaped by man for centuries. Hike along the Roman path together with a National Park Ranger and learn interesting facts about the history of the former trade route.

            CASTLE TOUR
            4th July to 25th September 2022 - Kaprun

            Walk through 600 years of eventful history.
            Even today you can still feel the atmosphere of times long gone when you enter the venerable Kaprun Castle. It is as if you are travelling back in time. Surrounded by centuries-old walls, you get an impression of how counts and castellans spent their everyday lives.

            Learn more about the castle and listen to the history at 5 pm. Afterwards, you can explore the castle yourself. There are photo points, a small exhibition, the castle museum and the dungeon. In 2021, the castle association built a staircase to get to the highest point of the keep, from where you can enjoy the panoramic view. The unique view over the Zell Basin is a special highlight of a visit to the castle.

            SPIN SHEEP'S WOOL with the wooden spinning wheel

            You want to learn the old craft, the spinning and immerse yourself in the world of wool? On the wooden spinning wheel, you can make your first spinning attempts and learn interesting things about the materials. Get a taste of an old craft, which exists since people has wrapped himself in clothes!

            FELTING - The traditional processing of sheep's wool into felt!

            HOCHFELD MINE - A JOURNEY INTO THE PAST
            11th July to 9th September -  Untersulzbachtal Neukirchen

            After the mining was stopped, a lot of work and time are invested to convert the old mine into a visitor indoor exhibition. The attraction offers exciting insights into alpine geology and the history of the National Park.
