Take a snow shoe walk across wild hillsides. Learn how to build an igloo, read animal tracks and learn about the survival strategies of the local wildlife. This brochure contains the complete winter program organised by the Nationalpark rangers.

WASENMOOS - INSIGHTS AND VIEWS IN THE HOHE TAUERN

During an easy snowshoe hike through the Wasenmoos at the Pass Thurn, you can really guess the impressive mightiness of the Hohe Tauern. The National Park rangers provide insights and views into this unique habitat, which in winter seems inaccessible and threatening to peoples.

  • Duration: approx. 3 hours (level of difficulty - easy)

HIGH ALPINE STUBACHTAL

The Stubachtal valley at the rear of the village is an inviting place for a high-alpine snowshoe hike. The adventure tour offers you fantastic views of a natural ice curtain, imposing views of the Hohe Tauern and tracks of red deer, foxes and chamois as well as the habitat of many animals. The National Park ranger will also explain interesting facts about survival strategies and symbioses, such as those of the nutcracker and the arolla pine.

KITZSTEINHORN EXPLORER TOUR

Intriguing insights into nature, including glacial ice, native eagles and the function of barrier forests, explained by an experienced National Park Ranger. This new winter theme tour for visitors interested in nature leads from the valley all the way up to the "Top of Salzburg" viewing platform at 3,029 m.

  • Duration: approx. 2.5 hours
  • Charge: per person € 9.00 excl. cable car ticket | Children born 2015 and later for free

NATIONALPARK GALLERY TOUR

In the mystical informative tunnel of the National Park-Gallery, the ranger conveys interesting fact about the formation of mountain crystals and the Hohe Tauern, he talks about gold and silver, the natural phenomenon of permafrost, but also about fauna, flora and the glaciers of the Hohe Tauern. You will experience stunning views to the pristine natural wilderness of the Hohe Tauern National Park, with 1,856 m² the largest nature reserve in the Alps, from the viewing platform at the end of the tour.

  • Duration: approx. 45 minutes

WINTER ADVENTURE IN THE HOLLERSBACH VALLEY

In the winter months, the Hollersbach valley is particularly enchanting. Snow-covered alpine meadows and forests blanketed in hoar frost as well as glistening, icy streams make this excursion especially rewarding. Animal tracks tell of the winter life of the local fauna.

MAGIC WINTER EXPERIENCE IN RAURIS

The snow-covered landscape in the rear Rauris valley - called Hüttwinkltal - is excellent for hiking on snowshoes. On this moderate tour you can enjoy magnificent views of the Sonnblick and the Ritterkopf. In the snow-covered winter landscape you will discover again and again the most diverse animal tracks, which tell you about the winter life of the local fauna.

  • Duration: approx. 4.5 hours (level of difficulty - medium)

PRISTINE SULZBACH VALLEYS

The winter transforms the Ober- and Untersulzbach Valley at the foot of the Großvenediger with its snow-covered forests and icy watercourses into a fairytale landscape. On this snowshoe hike you will learn interesting facts about the Sulzbach valleys. 

  • Meeting point: 10 am Gasthof Schütthof (entrance Untersulzbach Valley in Neukirchen)
  • Duration: approx. 5 hours (level of difficulty - medium)
  • Charge: adults € 18.00 | children & youths (10-16 years) in accompanied by parents free of charge

WINTRY PRIMEVAL FOREST IN RAURIS

Participants are shuttled to the starting point at the Lenzanger car park, then a magnificent snowshoe hike awaits you in the Rauris primeval forest. The hike through snow-covered old arolla pine and spruce trees brings the magic of winter to life. The way back is on a toboggan.
