The glacier and the Hohe Tauern National Park guarantee "winter sports enjoyment".
Skiing & snowboarding on the Kitzsteinhorn promises exceptional outdoor fun and winter sports action: Salzburg's only glacier skit area is a true "playground" for families, ski tourers, freestylers and freeriders. In addition to virtually limitless opportunities for winter sports amid the magnificent mountain landscapes of Hohe Tauern National Park, thanks to TOP OF SALZBURG-Gipfelwelt 3000 the Kitzsteinhorn also features a fascinating year-round destination for winter sports enthusiasts and regular visitors, plus a great selection of culinary highlights and cool events.
Winter comes early on the Kitzsteinhorn and it lasts a long time, too: An optimal scenario, in other words, for everyone who values the advantages of the coldest season and loves the snow & ice! In fact, everyone who is biting at that winter sports "bit" gets to hear those magic words, "Let's head up to the Kitz!" in October already.
Unlimited freedom at 3,000 meters of the Kitzsteinhorn
On 30 November, the long-awaited dream of a connection between the town of Kaprun and the Kitzsteinhorn will come true. With the opening of the 3K K-onnection - Salzburg's first try-cable gondola and the heart of the the K-ONNECTION - the Kaprun town center, Maiskogel Family Mountain and the 100 % always-snowy glacier ski area on the Kitzsteinhorn will be transformed into a single unit. This guarantees ultimate convenience, offering ski-in-ski-out between Kaprun and the glacier for the first time along with a unique panoramic ride that treats passengers to fascinating perspectives.
K-ONNECTION - the superlative lift axis
The heart of the K-ONNECTION, the 3K K-onnection, promises a one-of-akind experience thanks to 32 cabins running on Salzburg's very first try-cable gondola lift. The 360° glass walls of the cabins reveal breathtaking panoramas of Salzachtal, Zeller See and the highest peaks in all of Austria. Six lift stages extend like a string of pearls from the town center to the TOP OF SALZBURG on the Kitzsteinhorn at 3,029 m. Kaprun - Maiskogel - Kitzsteinhorn is a once-in-a-lifetime panoramic ride that covers a distance of 12 km.
Skiing on the glacier is a special experience: On the one hand, it is the altitude, but also the immediate proximity to the Hohe Tauern National Park, which makes a winter sports day on the Kitzsteinhorn so unique. Until early summer, Salzburg's only glacier ski area indulges in winter sports in all its facets. Wide pistes, ultra-modern mountain cable cars, inviting restaurants, absolute snow security, an enormous variety for winter sports enthusiasts, freestylers, free riders and snow lovers as well as a genuine joy for innovation characterize the Kitzsteinhorn.
The Kitzsteinhorn is famous for its deep-snow runs. Freeriders truly love the five marked routes: The "Freeride Info Base" as well as the "Info Points" at the entrance to the deep-snow hills provide important tips about safety in open terrain and give you the current avalanche threat level.
For ski tourers, the Kitzsteinhorn offers tow marked ascent routes from the Langwiedboden:
- "Schneekönigin" requires a 474 m gain on the way up to the Alpine Center at 2,450 m above sea level
- "Eisbrecher" route rises 899 m and brings you to the mountain station of the Maurerlift at 2,875 m.
The four snowy snowparks on the Kitzsteinhorn are some of the world's best, promising all the variety anyone could wish for. The superpose is in a class of its own.
- "Glacier Park" opens in October
- Superpipe and "Easy Park" followed in December
- "Central Park" from January (In February this is supplemented by the "South Central Park".)
- NEW! "Maisi Park" - also suitable for children.
The "Black Mamba" winds its way to the Langwiedboden like a poisonous snake. Poisonous because the narrow Piste No. 14 with a gradient of 63 % is by far the steepest piste in the entire glacier ski resort, and poisonous because once in the "Black Mamba" there is no getting out. But the experts among the skiers and boarders just love the challenge of this slope.
Up at the mountain terminal at 3,029 m above sea level, TOP OF SALZBURG-Gipfelwelt 3000 is an attraction that promises beautiful views of Hohe Tauern National Park. Even non-skiers have a lot to look forward to thanks to two panoramic lookout platforms, Cinema 3000 showing the film "Kitzsteinhorn - THE NATURE", the National Park Gallery along with the highest restaurant in Salzburg.
