Kitzsteinhorn & Maiskogel

Winter sports from autumn until early summer

Active winter sports fans and excursioners alike are treated to extraordinary sporting and nature experiences on the Kitzsteinhorn and Maiskogel. On the edge of Hohe Tauern National Park, Salzburg's only glacier ski area is a one-of-a-kind location in the Eastern Alps. With broad glacier slopes, spectacular views of high-alpine nature and virtually limitless opportunities for winter sports. The K-ONNECTION cableway links the town center of Kaprun with Maiskogel Family Ski Area along with the Kitzsteinhorn itself, making it possible to ride from the glacier all the way back into town.

On and away from the pistes: Freeriding and Ski Touring

Thanks to its snowy high elevations, the Kitzsteinhorn is famous for its deep-snow slopes. Freeriders treasure the five signposted routes, the Freeride Info Base at the Alpincenter as well as the Info Points at the start of each of the runs, providing important tips for added safety in open terrain. Workshops for beginners and experienced riders are offered in cooperation with two ski schools under the header "Freeride Monday". For touring skiers, the Kitzsteinhorn features two marked ascent routes alongside the piste beginning in Langwied: The "Schneekönigin" variant involves a gain of 474 vertical meters on its way up to the Alpincenter at 2,450 m above sea level. The "Eisbrecher" route, with an 899 m gain, leads to the mountain station of the Maurerlift at 2,875 m. A new ascent route up the Maiskogel also excites ski tourers. It begins at the Maiskogel car park, bringing you to the mountain station of the Almbahn (elev. 1,733 m) and the base station for the 3K K-onnection (elev. 1,570 m). Guided ski tours are offered every Thursday: Accompanied by a guide, you will make your way to the top of the pristine, 2,642 m Tristkogel.

All-out Action in the Snowparks

Several perfectly maintained snowparks make the Kitzsteinhorn an unsurpassed hotspot for the freestyle crowd: They are some of the absolute best worldwide with variety that is second to none. By October, the "Glacier Park" on the glacier platear has already opened its doors. As of December, the aptly named "Easy Park" awaits all snowboarders and freeskiers looking to tackle their first basic elements. The world's elite are busy training throughout November in the "Superpipe" before opening to the general public in December. As of January, the "Central Park" and "South Central Park" provide two additional playgrounds where you can let it all hang out. The "Maisi Park" is likewise a source of excitement, thanks to a special fun area and elements that are easily mastered.

ICE CAMP - presented by Audi

The "ICE CAMP - presented by Audi" captivates visitors at 2,600 m above sea level. From January until April, this incomparably wondrous world of snow and ice serves as a stylish meeting point on the Kitzsteinhorn. Once again, the interconncted igloos - including an art space, the ICE BAR and the showroom, in which an Audi is enthroned atop a platform of ice - become a highly coveted photo motif. Those igloos, each of which is twelve meters in diameter, are designed by Carinthian artist Max Seibald. Roughly 60 tons of ice and 2,500 cubic meters of snow go into creating this work of art. The ICE CAMP is open from approximately the beginning of January until mid-April.

Special challenges for winter sports fans

Those who carve genuine challenges will love the "Black Mamba" piste with a gradient as much as 63 percent. If you like to collect data, the ever-popular Skiline tracker will accurately keep a record of your vertical meters. Meanwhile, the Skimovie hill with a giant-slalom course will allow you to preserve those spectacular glacier memories. The Skiline Speedcheck on the Kitzsteinhorn is supplemented by another on the Maiskogel. And once again this winter, the Kitzsteinhorn K-ONNECTION CUP features five exciting Skiline.cc disciplines: Complete four of the five for the chance to win exclusive prizes.
