Meet the people who protect our National Park and learn how you can preserve these treasures for generations to come.

VALLEY OF EMERALDS
12th July to 6th September - Habachtal Bramberg

The Habachtal is the most famous valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park among mineral lovers. The only emerald discovery site in Europe contributes to the international fame of this Tauern valley. With a little luck you can observed wild animals such as red deer, chamois and marmots.

RAURIS VIRGIN FOREST

Enter on a journey of discovery through Austria's natural jewel, the natural Rauiser virgin forest. Mire pools, falling spruces, stone pine, lush green mosses and romantic glades are a rarity.

MYSTICAL NIGHT OF WATER
5th July to 6th September - Kaprun

A very special, mystical and stunning night-time spectacle brings the Sigmund Thun gorge to live. At the guided torch-lit walk parents and children alike look forward to a romantic, impressive adventure.

CASTLE TOUR
from 14th June

Walk through 600 years of eventful history.
Even today you can still feel the atmosphere of times long gone when you enter the venerable Kaprun Castle. It is as if you are travelling back in time. Surrounded by centuries-old walls, you get an impression of how counts and castellans spent their everyday lives.

Learn more about the castle and listen to the history at 5 pm. Afterwards, you can explore the castle yourself. There are photo points, a small exhibition, the castle museum and the dungeon. In 2021, the castle association built a staircase to get to the highest point of the keep, from where you can enjoy the panoramic view. The unique view over the Zell Basin is a special highlight of a visit to the castle.

NATURE DISCOVERY HIKE
Mid-May to end of September - Piesendorf Niedernsill

After the taxi ride you will go with the guide in an expedition through the beauty of nature. Learn at the guided hike worth knowing about the landscape and its minerals.

Dive into the world of herbs!
Get the herbal treasures from the pantry, learn a lot of interesting facts about the use of (wild) herbs and learn how to process them. Together with Susanne you will prepare a tasty herb snack and conjure up two fine herbal products to take home.

"AS THE NIGHT WAS BORN" - FOREST GHOST TRAIN

You create a magic forest with mysterious lights, wild shapes, eerie noises and melodies. At 9.30 pm (9 pm in August) all courageous parents, brothers, sisters and friends are invited to enter the forest ghost train.
An unforgettable adventure for the whole family.

NATURAL JEWEL REEDSEE
13th July to 7th September - Gastein valley

Hike with a National Park Ranger to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Gastein valley. Surrounded by ancient mountain forest, alpine roses, stone pines and dwarf pines, the Reedsee lake lies in a scenic clearing at the foot to the Tischlergruppe. With a bit of luck, trees, mountains and glaciers reflect magically in the calm waters.

TRIP TO THE ARCTIC

A hike to the glacier region of the Hohe Tauern is nearly the same as a thousand kilometers long trip to the North Cape. During your hike between Großglockner peak and Granatspitz mountain you will walk through different latitudinal zones of flora and fauna.

GORGE LIGHTS

Walk through the magically lighted Sigmund-Thun Gorge and experience a nature-festival enchanted by colorful light and roaring water. This hike is a mystical and beautiful experience for the whole family.

HERBAL HIKING
5th May to 29th September - Niedernsill

Leisurely hike with detailed explanation of the wild herbs growing on site and remedial plants. Then you attach with the accumulated herbs a herbal oil or a tincture or stir a remedial ointment.

KING OF THE SKY
14th July to 8th September - Raurisertal

In 1986, the first bearded vulture in the Kruml valley was abandoned across the Alps in order to resettle this formerly exterminated "King of the sky". During the excursion through the wild and romantic Kruml valley you can, with a bit of luck, observe other wild animals in addition to bearded vultures, griffon vultures, black vultures and golden eagles.

FROM THE TALWIRT TO THE SCHÖDERSEE

With a National Park Ranger, you will hike through the Schödertal valley with its steep rock faces and imposing rocky outcrops to the unique periodic Schödersee lake. The constant changes caused by the power of nature are the reason for new things about the head of the valley every year. The wild and romantic path as well as the Schöderbach stream ensure a varied hike.

SPIN SHEEP'S WOOL with the wooden spinning wheel

You want to learn the old craft, the spinning and immerse yourself in the world of wool? On the wooden spinning wheel, you can make your first spinning attempts and learn interesting things about the materials. Get a taste of an old craft, which exists since people has wrapped himself in clothes!

HOCHFELD MINE - A JOURNEY INTO THE PAST
12th July to 10th September -  Untersulzbachtal Neukirchen

After the mining was stopped, a lot of work and time are invested to convert the old mine into a visitor indoor exhibition. The attraction offers exciting insights into alpine geology and the history of the National Park.
