Easy access to the ski areas in the region

Want to start your ski day without having to drive? The free ski bus and the Pinzgau Lokalbahn train connect you with several ski areas in the Pinzgau region. Depending on your destination, you can travel directly to the valley station or change to a connecting bus along the way.

Timetable expected to be valid from 19th December 2026 to 7th March 2027, depending on snow conditions. 

How does it works?

Travel to the ski areas by Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train

The ski train is another way to reach several ski areas. The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train connects towns and villages throughout the Pinzgau region and offers connections to the ski lifts.

To Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See

  • For a ski day on Schmittenhöhe, take the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train to Areitbahn station. From there, simply walk across the car park to the areitXpress valley station. 

To Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun 

  • If you are heading to Maiskogel or Kitzsteinhorn, take the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train to Fürth-Kaprun station. Change to the ski bus there, which takes you onwards to the ski lifts. 

To the ski areas in Upper Pinzgau 

  • You can also travel towards the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen in Hollersbach (entrance to the ski area KitzSki) and the Wildkogel Arena in Bramberg and Neukirchen using the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn train. 

  • A rail replacement bus service operates between Mittersill and Krimml. Passengers must change from the train to the bus in Mittersill.

Which ticket do you need?

For holiday guests with a Guest Mobility Ticket

As an overnight guest, you receive the Guest Mobility Ticket from your accommodation provider. During its period of validity, you can use public transport throughout the Austrian province of Salzburg.

For passengers with a valid ski pass or season pass

Even without a Guest Mobility Ticket, you can use the Pinzgau Lokalbahn train on certain routes without purchasing an additional train ticket if you hold a valid ski pass or an accepted season pass. 

The "Ski Pass = Train Ticket" arrangement applies only to designated routes for travelling to and from the relevant ski area.
