Snowshoeing is an pure nature experience, and it's easy. Leave your tracks in deep, dusty powder, trudge through the winter forest, learn about the survival strategies of animals and experience a different dimension of time.

Winter in the National Park

In winter - the predominant season in the high altitudes of the Hohe Tauern National Park - the landscape shows a completely different side. The apparent tranquillity is deceptive.

On a guided snowshoe hike through the National Park landscape, the winter sun makes the short winter days seem a little longer thanks to the glistening, bright light reflected off the snow.

Monday

WINTER DREAM TANNWALD

26th December 2022 to 3rd April 2023 - Uttendorf

Mountain forests provide habitats for wildlife and plants, and recreational areas for people. They are an important climatic factor and play a crucial role in protecting against avalanches and debris flows. Discover the forest habitat with the National Park ranger.

IN THE WINTER REALM OF WATERFALLS

26th December 2022 to 3rd April 2023 - Krimml

The Krimml waterfalls are an impressive natural spectacle not only in summer. Due to their shady location, only a few rays of sunlight reach the waterfalls, creating beautiful ice formations at the right temperatures.

WINTER EXPERIENCE HOLLERSBACH VALLEY

27th December 2022 to 4th April 2023 - Hollersbach

The Hollersbach valley is particularly enchanting in the winter months. Snow-covered alpine meadows, hoarfrost-covered forests and glistening streams decorated with ice make this a particularly rewarding excursion. Animal tracks tell of the winter life of the local fauna.

MAGICAL WINTER EXPERIENCE 

28th December 2022 to 5th April 2023 - Rauris

Snowshoeing is the perfect way to explore the snow-covered landscape of the back Rauris valley - the so-called Hüttwinkltal. This moderately difficult tour offers stunning views of the Sonnblick and Ritterkopf peaks. The snow-covered winter landscape is full of animal tracks, telling of the winter life of the local fauna.

PRIMEVAL SULZBACH VALLEYS

29th December 2022 to 6th April 2023 - Neukirchen am Großvenediger

The winter transforms the Ober- and Untersulzbach valley at the foot of the Grossvenediger into a fairytale landscape of snow-covered forests and frozen streams. On this snowshoe hike you will learn interesting facts about the Sulzbach valleys.

WINTER PRIMEVAL FOREST

30th December 2022 to 7th April 2023 - Rauris

Participants are taken by shuttle bus to the starting point at the Lenzanger car park, from where a wonderful snowshoe hike into the Rauris primeval forest awaits. The hike through the snow-covered old pine and spruce stands will bring the magic of winter to life. The way back is on a toboggan.
