Our alpine meadows are not only popular destinations for hikers and bikers, but also valuable habitats for grazing animals.

To ensure your visit remains memorable, it is important to observe certain guidelines when interacting with grazing livestock, especially when accompanied by your dog. Exercise caution when encountering mother cows, as they may be protecting their calves.

Here are 10 rules for respectful interaction with grazing animals:

  1. Avoid direct contact with grazing animals. Do not feed the animals, maintain a safe distance at all time!
  2. Remain calm and do not startle grazing animals!
  3. Mother cows protect their calves. Avoid cows with calves, especially if you have a dog with you!
  4. Always keep dogs under control and on a short leash. If it becomes clear that a cow is going to attack: Unleash your dog immediately!
  5. Stay on designated hiking and biking trails!
  6. If grazing animals block your path, pass them with as much distance as possible, or dismount if cycling!
  7. When approaching grazing animals, remain calm, avoid turning your back, and give them space!
  8. At the first sign of the animals seeming unsettled, remain calm and leave the area quickly!
  9. Respect fences! If there is a gate, use it, close it properly afterward, and cross the pasture swiftly.
  10. Treat the people working here, as well as nature and animals, with respect.
